April 22, 2026

Sor San, a graduate of Phnom Penh International University (PPIU), represents a powerful example of perseverance, resilience, and the transformative impact of education. Born and raised in Chroy Changvar District, Phnom Penh, she comes from a modest, hardworking family. Her father supports the household through fishing, small-scale farming, and animal raising, while her mother contributes as a home-based silk weaver.

From an early age, Sor San has lived with a disability that has presented ongoing challenges in both her daily life and educational journey. In many contexts, such challenges can limit access to learning opportunities and participation. However, her story is defined not by barriers, but by determination. Through consistent effort, discipline, and a strong commitment to her goals, she has remained steadfast in pursuing her education.

A Steady Path Through Education

Sor San’s academic journey reflects both continuity and resilience. She successfully progressed through each stage of her education, building a strong foundation for her future:

  • She completed her primary education at Samdech Ov Primary School (2001–2007)
  • She continued her lower secondary studies at Bun Rany Hun Sen Koh Dach Secondary School (2007–2009)
  • She completed her upper secondary education at Bun Rany Hun Sen Koh Dach High School (2009–2013)
  • She then pursued higher education at Phnom Penh International University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (2013–2017)

Throughout these years, Sor San demonstrated not only academic commitment but also personal resilience. Navigating structural and social challenges associated with disability, she remained focused on her studies and consistently worked toward her goals.

Overcoming Barriers Through Persistence

Sor San’s experience highlights a broader reality faced by many students with disabilities: the need to overcome both visible and invisible barriers in education. Limited accessibility, social perceptions, and resource constraints can all pose significant obstacles. Yet, her journey shows that with determination and support, these barriers can be challenged.

Her achievements stand as a testament to the importance of inclusive education systems that recognise and support the potential of every student, regardless of physical condition.

A Story of Strength and Possibility

Today, Sor San’s journey serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges. Her success reflects not only her personal strength but also the critical role that education plays in creating opportunities and empowering individuals.

Her story reinforces a simple but powerful message: perseverance, when combined with access to education, can open pathways to achievement and personal growth.
